Since a good diet starts with breakfast, here are my 5 tips on eating eggs. Why? Well, let’s face it: eggs can get bland and boring if you don’t jazz ‘em up. And we don’t want to fall off track, right?
1. Mix it up. Don’t just eat eggs prepared the same way day after day. If cooking isn’t your strongpoint spend 15 minutes online learning simple, basic ways to keep egg whites interesting. You can serve them scrambled, make a veggie omelette https://fitandpsyched.com/blog/vegetarian-or-vegan/or as a protein pancake (see below). I have one client who drinks them with no-sugar-added, 25 calorie “maple syrup”. When drinking your egg whites be sure to drink a pasteurized version, leave the raw version to Rocky. The point is: mix it up, just like you work out in the gym with different exercises, different weights, different reps, get creative and stay on course for your fitness goals.
It tastes like dessert! Protein pancakes
3. South of the Border. Mexican food is full of flavor and breakfast does not have to be an exception. Buy low calorie, low salt salsa with no fruit (e.g. mango), sugar or corn syrup. ½ cup of salsa and throw in a cup of black beans and you are ready : healthy carbs, serious protein, lots of flavor.
4. Cilantro. The most controversial herb or green! You either love it or hate it. But it adds flavor to your scrambled egg whites. You can buy it by the bunch in Florida for about $1 and it gives you $10 worth of flavor. If you don’t want to scramble your eggs then place them in a skillet, throw on some cilantro and bake them in the oven.
5. Know what you like. If you crave sweetness, add cinnamon and stevia. If you like hot and spicy, put on the hot sauce or try some garlic chili paste for a real dose of flavor. Think about what you like and want in the morning then experiment with your egg whites to get your day started in a healthy fashion. Remember: eating right is a commitment just like working out and lifting weights, it’s a commitment to a healthier you!
