Pre-workout supplement powder (known simply as “pre-workout”) are supplements one drinks mixed in water to increase energy and strength when taken 30-60 minutes before a workout. Some people swear by them, but are they really beneficial, and do we need it before hitting the gym?
There are so many products on the market when it comes to pre workout supplements. These products make claims such as boosting athletic performance, increasing energy and giving you an extra “push” in the gym. So, how true are these claims? Some pre workout contain ingredients such as caffeine (usually the first ingredient in many pre workout powders), BCAAs, and vitamins – all of which are pretty safe to consume for the average gym goer. However, other pre workout supplements contain a long list of ingredients, some of which are not studied enough to know the potential hazardous effects or if they even work. While just having simply a cup of coffee and a healthy pre workout snack will get you pumped for your workout, if you choose to take pre workout, it is important you do your research on the product and the ingredients. Make sure you are familiar with what all the ingredients are and what their effects are when consumed.
