Tis the season to eat, drink, and be merry! Many of us will have social gatherings with loved ones where a variety of plentiful and not-so-healthy meals, desserts, and drinks. So, how does one manage to stay on track with a healthy diet and exercise regimen? Following a few simple tips can make staying consistent with your schedule a breeze, while still being able to indulge here and there without the guilt!
1.Hydrate! We all know water is essential, however, many of us tend to drink less water during the colder months. Drinking at least eight cups of water daily helps regulate your metabolism, keeps you feeling fuller longer, and flushes toxins from your body. Drinking plenty of water before and at your holiday party will keep you from overeating and prevent a nasty hangover if you tend on drinking alcohol. Add lemon, lime, or other citrus for a refreshing way to get extra nutrients and detoxification!
2.Don’t skip meals! It can sometimes be a first thought when we know we have a party to attend. Don’t plan on “saving calories” for a party, it will only slow your metabolism down, cause you to overeat, and thus causing your body to hold onto fat. Instead, plan on small, nutrient dense meals throughout the day filled with protein and veggies. This will keep your cravings for junk food under control so you won’t overdo it or feel guilty later.
3.Make a plan. “A failure to plan is a plan to fail” https://fitandpsyched.com/blog/benefits-of-meal-preparation-delivery-service/. You don’t have to miss your workout routine on days you have social events. When possible, it is usually best to workout early in the day. It revs up your metabolism, keeping you in fat-loss mode all day. The later you wait to workout, the more likely you’ll be to skip it. Know you have a party to attend to at 7pm? Arrange your schedule to a time where you can squeeze in a workout as early in the day as possible. It is important to remember that any workout is better than nothing! Even encouraging a walk outdoors with loved ones after a meal is beneficial and creates time to bond with one another.
