Shoulder training is something that should be approached with a great deal of attention to form. Although all training needs to be form first, our shoulders are so intricate in structure it’s imperative they are trained correctly. The basics of training shoulders are laterals, upright rows and presses. Laterals are performed either to the front, side or rear. Most of the time you will see people start out with presses and then throw in some laterals. One suggestion to help target the shoulders more directly, is to perform our front and side laterals BEFORE doing any presses. This pre-exhausts our shoulders which allows us to feel overhead presses more in the shoulders and less in the triceps. Another added benefit is you won’t need to use as much weight to effectively train your shoulders which in the long run of shoulder stability is a huge plus.
